Dear Puddle Duckers,

We’re excited to be looking forward to another great year of Puddle Ducking here in Port Alberni. Our first year was a rousing success with the completion of two hatches, many boats built and the first Puddle Duck Regatta during the Centennial and the awarding of the Crowshaw Cup.

Hosting the Puddle Duck World Championships

For the coming year we have committed to holding the Puddle Duck World Championships and we've already received some interest from racers outside of the Valley. Stay tuned for the official date announcement.

As we start this year, we have a goal of not only growing the club but also improving our usefulness to our members, which brings up the idea of membership.

New Puddle Duck Club

The executive committee decided that a small membership fee will help us in all aspects of running the club, from finding a better website hosting solution to funding events for members and promoting the club in town. We also felt that a free club would not get the kind of commitment we need from members to achieve our goals.

We believe that a $25 annual fee per family is about the perfect membership fee and would help our members feel a sense of ownership and membership to something real.

As a member you get several benefits

  • Our Puddle Duck Newsletter – The Duck Pond. Information, news, stories, tips and more exclusive to club members
  • Access and invitations to Puddle Duck member only workshops, and sailing training
  • Access to club owned boats for training, racing and just for fun.

That last point is one of the best benefits we can offer. There are a couple of club owned boats, and if you want to join but don’t have your own boat, we will let you use the club owned boats to learn to sail, to improve, or just to have a fun day on the water. They’ll be available on a first come first served basis.

To pay for your membership, just call Chris or Anthea Finlayson at 250.724.5526. You can pay with cash or by cheque payable to Alberni Puddle Duck Racers.

Happy Puddle Ducking!
